We are pleased to announce that New Experience Pilgrims have been acquired by Headwater.

It is a coming together of two kindred spirits, as Headwater is an award-winning specialist in self-guided walking and cycling holidays with over 37 years of experience and knowledge, while New Experience has been creating and perfecting walking and pilgrimage holidays around the world for over 20 years. Both businesses were founded from humble beginnings; led by husband-and-wife teams and offering a more personal approach, centred around customer experience and exceptional service.

What to take on your Pilgrim Journey

The most important element of preparation to influence your comfort on your journey ahead, is to know what to pack:

  • Strong well run-in walking boots with good tread - you’ll be wearing them most of the day every day, so they will need to be comfortable
  • Well fitted walking socks
  • Warm socks
  • Warm pullover or fleece jacket
  • Warm outdoor coat
  • Rain coat - The reality is that weather can change quickly so a light rain coat that can easily be rolled up and placed in your backpack will definitely come in handy!
  • Suncream and lipsol
  • Sun hat and sun glasses
  • Drinks container (if you do not want to buy bottled water)
  • Plastic bags (most backpacks are not waterproof)
  • Walking poles (useful)
  • Binoculars
  • Camera and charger - Whatever Camino route you decide to take you’re guaranteed to be met with some spectacular photo opportunities
  • Small torch
  • Dictionary/Phrasebook
  • Pilgrim passport (if you are wanting to receive your Compostela certificate – we provide this)
  • Mobile phone (programme in local emergency number)
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle
  • Sense of humour!
